For Sale: Prime Bay City Land

I've decided to leave Bay City.  Just time for it.  There are other factors as well but nothing to do with the area.   It's a lovely place, double prim (holds 468), lots of canals and protected roads, many marvelous mole builds.

My parcel is rare in that it's a 1024 square parcel and not a wedge or fraction of a standard plot.  Two sides are protected, making a cobblestone corner with a canal to the north and a street to the west.  The street is George Gershwin Way, a name I gave it during a project with the Linden Department of Public Works. This is an official street name as designated by a sign a little further south beside a square  featuring the statue of Sir Mole (Bay City has several commemorative statues of prominent moles).  This parcel is very close to Route 66 and the eastside trolley.

This is located in "Bay City - Falconmoon" sim in the original eastern half of Bay City and M content.  I'm asking for L$60,000 which is very good  for the size, shape and and location of the parcel.  You'd be a hop skip n jump from the reknown Molexandria archeological site.

You can visit the location at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Bay%20City%20-%20Falconmoon/78/152/26 . I may replace the picture below when I get home. The office PC has everything set to Low Graphics ;)

Please IM Holocluck Henly if you're interested.

Carpal Tunnel & Today's Dave Edmunds Show

Thursday 8/23

Doctors doctors doctors.

Someday I'm going to take off from work and not include tests or doctors in any of it.  As it is I'll be taking a third day off for yet another issue tomorrow, some growth I just noticed the other day.

I'm writing this while sitting in a familiar chair, a place where I once had a procedure to remove a cyst from my thumb.  I believe that was in 2005.

Today is a consultation for my right hand, which started tingling and going numb in bed a few months back (a pricey cushioned splint while I slept took care of that), then got exponentially worse after relay weekend, with weakness and numbness most of the time and a challenge to get the hand to even move in the morning.  This past month after starting the supplememt MSM these symptoms have receded somewhat.  Let's just say it's possible to cut raw vegetables and open jars most days again, and the "Morning Claw" is now only a few seconds' bother.

It's now over an hour later. The date has been set for the procedure carpal tunnel procedure. Up in the air about the "local" but I'm speaking to my immunologist next week about that.

Saturday morning 8/25

I'm sitting in my favorite Peruvian restaurant for breakfast.  Been a month and I miss being served a meal.  Well that's not true; Dad and I went to a place after Thursday's doctor visit.

Today is day #2 of London Village Festival.  A couple of friends and I will be doing The Dave Edmunds Show this evening (local time 6:30pm or 3:30pmSLT).  I could have used 1 hour 15 minutes for a retrospective or 90 minutes if I had another male avatar to "be Nick Lowe," but such are how things roll.  Some of the nicest people have lives and they couldn't join in.  It's still gonna rock :)

This is a BYOG event, aka Bring Your Own Guitar, so a MoCap guitar moves ball will be out.  Look for the purple planet for air guitaring or playing along (if you have a guitar. Actually most people do in their library) in the audience. Jayne has reign over the lights as last year, so we'll see what she does (I'll have particles off to keep intact so I'll be oblivious to most of it again; it's what the audience sees that counts).

I'm wedged tight between 2 performances so we start promptly; last year there was a 15 minute buffer and I led in with an instrumental.

They put just the slightest hint of cinnamon in their chocolate (say it right: choh coh lah teh).  And I don't get the usual corn syrup reaction I do from commercial hot cocoa.  This place may be making theirs from scratch.

Anyway I'll be offering a FREE souvenir shirt for attendees.  There's a box of flags for waving including for our show (don't recognize the picture; personally I would have included a silhouette of a classic guitar pose).

If you're reading this and are either new to Second Life or haven't been on for awhile, 2 things:

1. Instead of downloading Second Life's viewer, go to http://www.phoenixviewer.com and download Phoenix viewer for the least lag & a familiar classic interface, and

2. In Edit/ Preferences under audio/video check to play media when available, but not to automatically run.

You're now ready for the show :) Thanks for listening and have a great time!

Hurricane Charles Hits New Toulouse

Maison Bleu took on water this past weekend

I posted in Flickr at Friday lunchtime the noticeable change in the weather in New Toulouse.  It picked up later on and throughout Saturday the accumulation flooded the Bayou.

I love that they disallow fullbright on exterior prims.  It really adds to the ambience, with that dark moody atmosphere and that warm light in occupied buildings.

For the Saturday party I opted for the roof.  There was a steady stream (pardon the expression) of partiers and someone brought out a tiny danceball so everybody could join in (I really need to make a dispenser of "locks" so tinies can dance the big dances).

Paddling through the Bayou
I got the times wrong and had to miss the other hurricane party that day to attend Relay For Life's wrap-up ceremonies.  Learning that the relay doesn't conclude the fundraising season, as many teams since that weekend made it to the next level.  We also learned next year's theme.  The team will decide together how we want our campsite to look.

Vendors remain active for another 2 days as of this posting, so there's time to shop around at Cartoon World for stuff with all monies going to the American Cancer
Society.

Meanwhile there's next week and the London Village Festival.  My hour starts at 3:30pm SLT on Saturday.  This year's tribute performance will be Dave Edmunds with the BYOG danceball out for anybody who wanted to play along.  I'm sure many will be doing that offline as well!

The End of an Era & an Impending Hurricane

I'm sitting on the train to work as I often am when blogging, thinking back on the weekend.

I had my farewell event in New London and ended my regular Saturdays there with a dance party on Gallifrey.  There was a splendid turnout considering the Olympics was being broadcast on both sides of the pond.  It was a bittersweet time with regulars (those who could attend) expressing their sentiments over a Saturday without my tunes.

The fact is it was time to move on there.  New London is an everchanging landscape, and its shifting traffic could probably use a fresh act for its Saturday nights.  I just need my Saturday afternoons more flexible for RL and other virtual opportunities.  I gave Laredo and Kat two weeks' notice - and info for my New London Festival act for the 25th.  I will continue to do stuff for them for special events and holidays.  You can still buy flat guitars in Big Ben Club; all sales go to NLV tier.

Looks like the RFL wrap party is being held exactly when I would have hosted, too...

btw You have through this week to get my stuff for Relay For Life donation in Cartoon World and down the hill from the Starship Diner on Route 2.  Sometime on Saturday the kiosks and vendors go *poof*.

This Friday marks the arrival of Hurricane Charles to New Toulouse.  Sometime before it's predicted to hit I'll board up the shop.  Depending on how severe the storm, I'll host something either in the attic or on the roof.  Let's see what sort of ladder I can get.

The Taking of a Burning Life

When I first participated in Burning Life, it was a marvelous celebration of art and fire, run by actual participants from Burning Man.  It was a timeout from the real world - even in grid terms - as residents left behind their virtual routines and estates to become a part of a desert community for a time.

The one problem I had from that year (and still do after their recurrence for the playa offerings for SL9B) was a clear violation of their principles with a camp for the Church of the SubGenius. No org or group representation, mich less a trademarked entity, has any business on the playa ever.  Reporting them in 2009 fell on deaf ears as did the presence of a role play Starfleet group, who proudly flew their flag at their campsite and repeatedly slipped recruitment materials into their freebie packs.

Then 2010, the first year of Burn2 with a considerably smaller playa with a fine artistic spirit to make up for it.  The atmosphere was spoiled this time by the Lamplighter group, who were more into their campsite's bath house and holding events there than what they were there for. The People did their duty for them, walking down the roads toward the temple & drumming through the night.

Last year it became officially associated with Burning Man. However I met with a disturbing moment when - at the first open house to pitch for land purchases - they held a dance observed by a horned creature with hooves, sitting on a fiery throne. Now what are people supposed to think about that? Personally I wouldn't dance for such an entity's enjoyment, much less indulge them with any act of subserviance. I just left. If that was their idea of a celebration or party they could have it. Someone had sponsored me (I still believe it was Kev, as he was always enthusiastic and encouraging of my art) so I put something introspective and markedly smaller as a build than the Freudian overcompensation all around me. Remember: the difference between a big build and a small build is the desire to scale it up. The primcount and resources are the same after that.  There was an effort to make amends with the playa community regarding the Lamplighters this time around, but the end result was a group who wouldn't teleport when walking was impossible, lamplighters leaving for bed on the way or during (why show up in the first place?), and the meager handful remaining arrived about fifteen minutes before sunrise. It was a bit of a joke really. Putting them up against what I experienced in 2009 there's no comparison.

Yet another thing: Burn2 was no longer a special event. Burn2 held events and festivals and weekends at the drop of a hat, often opposite major goings on such as the 7Seas Fishiversary AND 7Seas Fall Fishing Festival. While I'm sure this was to get more mileage from the sims, it devalued Burn2 as anything special. Burn2 in October? Big deal. There's one of a sort every 2 months.

This comes to SL's equivalent to Burning Man this year, and their pitch next week to attract parcel purchases. A questionaire was sent yesterday with a web poll to vote on a theme. I had a real "wtf" moment from that. All this time Burning Life and Burn2 served to bring Burning Man to Second Life. The only reason it was held after was so that RL Burners would have the opportunity to participate in Second Life as well. This means for all these years it's shared the same principles (even if it didn't always practice them) and the same theme.  My guess is that someone may have been anxious over the Fertility theme and was afraid the playa would be overrun with female anatomy. That would be some reason eh? We've had evolution, rebirth... what a terrible thing to respect tradition and follow suit with Burning Man.

Are we to assume that Burning Man is no longer associated with Burn2?  If this is the case then there should have been some sort of notice or disclaimer on burn2.org. Because this is it. It's over if they even consider such a thing. Then they become nothing more than a bunch of hippy pyro's getting their virtual kicks. I mean really...

Snips

When you're in a place with lots of people and they all speak a language, and someone multilingual like you comes in and you think to yourself: "at last I can speak the language of my home country," think of all the people - including your friends - you insult by ignoring them all just to speak in another language to this superficial acquaintance exclusively for the rest of the event.  The French have a word: etiquette. This is one of those times to apply it. Doesn't matter what combination of languages.  Just because you CAN speak in another language from those you commonly interact with doesn't mean you should if you don't have to.

Couple weeks to the New London Fest.  I've been wanting to do this one for months and have a playlist all ready.  I could use backup on guitar and drums.  I know I don't have the same people available from last year's ELO tribute. A year in Second Life is like a decade offgrid, and they've moved beyond. When I mentioned which act I was going to represent this year, I didn't get the response I expected.  I felt it warranted something a great deal more enthusiastic.

If anybody knows how to upload a widescreen video to Flickr or Facebook without losing the ratio, please let me know?

My hand doesn't hurt as badly or go numb as quickly today. Thanks for asking. My fault I left my supplements incl MSM home yesterday.  I'm probably taking too low a dose, but I'll be seeing my specialist in 2 weeks.  In 3 of course is the EMG and surgical consultation.

I've really been meaning to make that rockvideo. I think the one I have in mind CAN be self-photographed.
